The Yankees proved they have a short-term memory erasing the thought of last night’s blow-out, destroying the Pirates 10-0. The Yankees came out of the gates hustling, charged by Derek Jeter, as he led by example going three-for-three at the plate including two doubles. Bobby Abreu launched a majestic three-run homer to right field and Robinson Cano blasted a solo shot to right center. Cano had his second consecutive three hit day and hopefully this can be the spark that turns his season around. The Yankees also scored runs playing small-ball behind successful bunts off the bats of Joba Chamberlain and Justin Christian. Christian can bring a new element to the team in the sense he can effectively contribute to playing small-ball with his speed and contact ability. The Yankee offense was firing on all cylinders tonight and eight of the 10 runs scored with two outs. The abundance of run support was encouraging to Joba Chamberlain, as he pitched 6.2 outstanding shut-out innings yielding six hits while striking out seven. Joe Girardi fully stretched out Joba tonight allowing him to toss a season high 114 pitches and he was certainly prepared, throwing heat late into the game effectively locating the strike-zone. Joba shined tonight and he has shown a variety of signs that he has the mental and physical toughness to become a special pitcher. The pitching staff provided the 6th shut-out of the year and hopefully they can lead the way to another win streak. Mike Mussina will face Paul Maholm tomorrow seeking his 11th win.

Joba Chamberlain is sporting a 1.80 ERA as a starter and the Yankees have won his last four starts.
